Hello! and welcome to my first ever blog! My name is Julia Dubois and I am a high school teacher. I graduated from the Faculty of Education at Nipissing University in 2007 and have been teaching ever since in some capacity or another. My current area of study is Reading Part I. I took reading partly out of interest, as I hear my colleagues at the secondary level discussing the problems with their classes and how they don't know how to teach students how to read. Literacy is becoming a larger and larger concern and unfortunately the reality is that many of us in high school will have to help our students to use reading strategies that they should know and be able to use on their own. This is true across all subject areas not just English.
The other reason that I took this course was because my oldest daughter will be 4 in January and starting school next September. As a parent, I wanted to be prepared so that I could help her.

I have created this Blog as a reference for anyone who teaches reading to children. The focus of this Blog is to provide some tips and tricks for reaching students who experience challenges when it comes to reading. The particular focus is on Boys, ELL students, those with a Diverse Background and how to reach all students through the use of DI. Thanks for checking me out. Feel free to post your comments in the different Blog Sections.
